  1. I agree with that. I saw a mixed bag with MD today (and a couple of duals I caught online). No Hayhurst hurts. Hunter May out this week makes me wonder whether he'll be at full strength by Team State, and others possibly not at full strength (I know, we disagree here) doesn't help. I thought some of their not so well known guys performed well today. James Ralph appears to have stepped up a level Others may not be State contenders, but they are respectable and in a dual, depending on who they are facing off against, could provide team points. They definitely give MD the depth we typically expect. That said, I don't think Brownsburg has much at all in terms of weakness and has firepower up and down the lineup. I would still expect good competitive wrestling, but your $.02 seems accurate here.
  2. Nope no shame at all. Never insinuated there was. They've battled before. I just didn't see the same in Sollars I have in the past. That's all. No excuses. No judgement.
  3. I guess we'll agree to disagree. I didn't see the explosiveness I've seen in the past from either. Last time Sollars and Little met it was freestyle and 12-12 and lots of action. Nowhere near that much action today. Not sure what's going on, but I'd confidently say they ain't wearing those big braces for nuthin'
  4. 285- James Ralph (MD) dec Jacob Johnson (Franklin Community) 7-4. Big win for Ralph, stepping up a level. Definitely looks improved. Johnson is tough. Ralph - State #13 Johnson - State #3
  5. Isn't that lovely they cut the Flo/TW video in the middle of the 285 match. Johnson led 3-2 in the 3rd period. Video comes back up about 30 seconds later with James Ralph leading 7-4. Ralph closes it out, but those of us at home completely miss what happened. Thanks for that!!!! Edit: Video disappeared from 1:15 left to :37 left, missing an apparent takedown and 3 back points, with Johnson getting an escape right before the video came back.
  6. No, 8th graders can't compete in Indiana. Some tournaments will allow teams from out of state where they are allowed. I think KY may be the only state nearby that allows it. I know Minnesota does, but not sure about IL, OH or MI
  7. Both Brody Baumann and Gabe Sollars wore a big, heavy knee brace. Neither looked like they had their normal explosiveness. Brody was able to manage an 8-3 win over Codei Khawaja. And Sollars lost 9-2 to Stephan Little of Union Ky. Not to make excuses as both of those opponents are good and both are nationally ranked on Flo, but Sollars - Little past matches have been closer, with Sollars winning at least once. Both, with the braces, just seemed a little slower on their feet than I have seen in the past. Will watch how that progresses during the season.
  8. In the earlier loss, Egli chose down and Kessinger was tough on top, getting back points twice before getting the fall with the cradle. This time, Egli chose neutral and had a 4-0 lead before Kessinger chose top in the 3rd. Egl stayed out of the cradle and eventually got the reversal and ride out to finish it 6-0. Kessinger's strength definitely looks to be on top. Nice adjustment by Egli for 3rd.
  9. Both Raney's are 8th graders. Jordyn won KY State last year at 106 as a 7th grader.
  10. That's correct. Both 8th graders now. Jordyn, a little heavier won the KY 106 lb Title last year. Both won in the final, Jayden with an 11-2 major over Schaefer and Jordyn with a 4-0 win over Evan Seng.
  11. Sollars for MD wearing a long black brace on his right leg. Goes from mid thigh to mid calf.
  12. Damn, you're posting when I still show :30 left on video! ha ha Also note on this one, Keegan Williams down to 132 from 138, where he is ranked.
  13. Note: Zirklebach down to 120 for this tournament. He is ranked at 126. That was a nice repeat of last year's 3rd/4th Place match at 106 State
  14. Semifinals tomorrow morning beginning at 9:00
  15. Makes sense. He's back and doing well at MD today. Should have a nice Semifinal match tomorrow morning against Keaton Morton of Perry Meridian.
  16. Hope nothing long term for May I believe the Semifinals will be Thursday, but not 100%
  17. No Hunter May in the brackets for MD. He wrestled last week in the dual against Memorial. No Ashton Hayhurst either, so rumors of him not wrestling this year may be true?
  18. Landon Horning did not wrestle in Memorial's dual against Mater Dei. Memorial FF'd 4 weights so not sure if they had some sickness issues or if something else. This would fall under Old Names, but does anyone have an update on Leighton Ramsey for Castle. Not in Castle's lineup at Mooresville. Ramsey was 29-1 last year, but fell in the Regional.
  19. I'll add, the vision for the event was originally to have a true champion. But several coaches balked at wrestling team's already on their schedule so they created the format you got. Each team had 2 scheduled opponents, then the "winner" of the other pod in their Pool. PSU and Iowa were in opposite Pools, so they could not face each other. 3 matches total. They originally announced it as National Duals, but quickly changed it to Collegiate Duals to try to limit confusion.
  20. December 18-19 - Some more results from this weekend... Jordan Slivka won both matches in duals against Gardner Webb and George Mason, 2-0 and 8-0. Slivka is ranked 23rd at 157 by both Flo and Wrestlestat. Carson Brewer dropped a 4-3 decision to Anthony Perrine of Gardner Webb and did not wrestle in the George Mason Dual. Ohio U FF the 197 match in that dual. Let's hope that's not an indication of an injury! Mattyb, any info you can share?? Eli Dickens enrolled at George Mason last year and did not wrestle in either dual. I can't find a roster for George Mason this year. Does anyone have an update on Eli and how he's doing? Is he still at GM? Purdue lost a dual to Iowa State 23-13. - Hayden Lohrey won a 5-3 dec over Austin Kraisser - Thomas Penola dropped a 6-4 dec to Yonger Batisda Pomares The Midwest Classic in Indianapolis was Sunday as well. it's a huge tournament that included 41 teams! Some Indiana related results.... 125 Christian Mejia, McKendree took home the Title, going 5-0 on the day! 133 Chase Wilkerson, UIndy went 2-2 and did not place 141 Ray Rioux, UIndy went 2-2 and did not place 149 Logan Bailey, UIndy went 4-2 and finished 7th 157 Nathan Conley, UIndy went 1-2 and did not place 157 Carter Noehre, Colorado School of Mines went 3-2 and did not place 165 Jack Eiteljorge, UIndy went 6-2 and finished 4th. Do MFFs count as a win? If not, he was 5-2. Not sure how they are counted in terms of a win 184 Gleason Mappes, UIndy went 2-2 and did not place 197 Derek Blubaugh, UIndy went 4-1 and finished as the Runner Up UIndy finished 2nd, 9 points behind Central Oklahoma. Again, my apologies if I missed someone.
  21. One might think 40 or 50 years of using "cake eaters" might yield something else. But as far as I know West Siders are still drinking Old Milwaukee and Milwaukee's Best (Hint: It ain't!), so why should anything change?
