  15. And you’re still flourishing as an Indiana Tech Warrior
  16. fun fact: The 2013 PM team… the Ihsaa did not score the first round at the state tournament that year. This was the first year going back to the individual tournament to determine the team state champion. They would have scored 14 more points for their 7 Friday night wins, plus whatever bonus they earned in those 7 matches. So, that team technically was the record holder for most points scored until the 2022 CP team blew it out of the water. Most Points Scored 178 Crown Point, 2022 112 Evansville Mater Dei, 2021 109.5 Warren Central, 2016 108 Indianapolis Cathedral, 2018 105 Brownsburg, 2022 102.5 Perry Meridian, 2013 102 Indianapolis Cathedral, 2020 A lot of great wrestling teams and awesome wrestlers have taken the mat over the years in Indiana. It’s a very hard tournament to win, especially under the IHSAA format. Comparing teams and eras is impossible, but that’s what makes it fun to think about. The duals tournament was awesome, but it had its challenges - making weight during the middle of the week, wrestling a lot during the postseason, it was not seeded so some areas had tougher paths than others. The individual tournament is awesome too, but it has its challenges - no wrestlebacks, luck of the draw, and some programs have tougher paths than others to get their guys downtown and on the podium. We have made much improvement with the classed duals tournament, the new travel rules, and our individual tournament is still the greatest spectacle in high school sport. When I was coaching at Roncalli during Covid I spent a lot of time on finding accurate statistics and researching information on the history of the program… What isn’t talked about enough is how hard our state tournament used to be and how difficult it was to win back in the 60s, 70s, 80s… we took less athletes from each round of the state tournament and medaled less wrestlers. Some years there was even like a repechage format at state. Crazy stuff.
  17. Warrior RTC @ Indiana Tech is going to run their Warrior RTC Folkstyle Open on Sunday, November 27, just like last year... and we will stay on that Sunday following Thanksgiving date moving forward. The flyer will be up on the ISWA website soon. Great opportunity for middle school kids to get some matches. We had 270 wrestlers last year, and expecting more this year!
  18. I know Pat Culp and Co are working on bringing it back to Indiana in the near future. A few factors in play were: USAW asking for $20,000 more than they usually ask from the host to have the event (the city in PA was willing to pay), and they also want the duals in big venues (no more high schools).
  19. Thanks for posting. Brought back some good memories. I got to compete in this event back in the day when I was a schoolboy, as it was just starting to become a huge event, and it was still held at Yorktown. Was fortunate to run the training camps and corner the 2010-14 teams with @swain358 we had a lot of fun coaching a bunch of young talent for those 7 days every June! There was so much talent on those teams, and it was fun to watch them grow up and go on to have great success in high school and college and internationally. It is sad to see this trip leave the state, as it was founded by Indiana in the 1990s.
  20. We have a unique opportunity going on right now until June 30th at Indiana Tech... Women's Only Practices on Mondays & Wednesdays at 6:00pm. Great learning environment with college coaches and athletes working out and coaching the room. 377 E Tillman Rd. Fort Wayne, IN 46807 If you have any questions contact me 317.501.8306 or info@warriorrtc.com
  21. I had a blast hanging out and talking wrestling with Dane Fuelling, Rex Brewer, and Coach Currie! WZBD Radio is doing great work to cover, promote, and grow the sport!
  22. Campbell and Phillips were best friends and training partners in the off-season. It was so much fun to help supplement their training at CIA. Those were killer rooms! I wish Pendoski, Eppert, or myself would have been smart enough to film some of those training sessions.
  23. Just wanted to remind everyone one final time that the Warrior RTC @ Indiana Tech starts Sunday... Fort Wayne LEGEND and current Indiana University Wrestling Assistant Coach Riley Lefever will be in attendance at Sunday's 6:00pm practice! Coach Lefever wrestled at Wabash College, where he was a 4x DIII National Champion, team captain and a First Team Academic All-American, and was also a UWW Junior Age Group National Team Member. Lefever then moved to State College, PA where he spent five years training freestyle with the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club under the tutelage of Cael Sanderson. In 2018 Riley earned the bronze medal at the Dave Schultz International Memorial tournament at 92kg and a bronze medal at the Outstanding Ukrainian Tournament. In 2019 he earned third place in the World Team Challenge Tournament. We are hosting our Coaches Summit this Sunday 8/29 4:00pm-6:00pm. We encourage any youth, middle school, high school, and college coaches that are interested in making their program better and growing the sport as a whole in Fort Wayne and the surrounding area to attend. Coaches you can bring car load(s) of athletes with you on Sunday, and they can hangout during the coaches summit in the wrestling facility until our 6:00pm workout.
