  1. Lucas Davison from Chesterton for Northwestern bumping up to heavyweight and placing 6th was incredible- great tournament and he took Stevson down
  2. 141 & 133 are deep every year, probably the deepest weights every year. that’s why. There are rarely easy matches in the Big Ten. On top of that, 15-8 in the Big Ten with Lee, Lee, Eireman, Bergland (AA), Micic, Rivera, Filius, (probably 20 All-Americans right there), and figure in you can see those guys 3-4 times every year at duals, Cliff Keen, Big Tens, and NCAA’s. That is unbelievably brutal. cripes, there are no slump-busters…
  3. Because Cormier can’t shut up. I’d rather see Jordan Burroughs who is more measured and thoughtful
  4. bingo Wrestling Scholar - no AA on the mat since 2013. The COVID may have given him more time; guys were awarded NWSCA AA based on seed. Have Concerns about a few guys go have regressed. I liked the addition of Shopp and Vega but they need another big guy animal assistant. penola got jobbed - they challenged the wrong takedown - he was up 8-2 when there was takedown at edge of mat, but it was clear they were out of bounds and there was no challenge - the dam broke after that. concerned about Kendall Coleman - looks hurt this year AA’s in Big Ten Illinois - 1 Iowa - 5 Michigan - 6 Minnesota - 3 Nebraska - 5 Northwestern - 4 Ohio State - 4 Penn State - 6 Rutgers - 2 Wisconsin - 3 Indiana - 0 Maryland - 0 Michigan State - 0 Purdue - 0
  5. Purdue coaches blew it with Penola in that last match. He had no issue getting away on the bottom in the first period, but they had him go neutral in the 3rd? Don't agree with that.
  6. Kudos, he shows up with the lights. He could have folded when he got caught in the headlock. Great match, but most impressive was his top game. Simon from Central Michigan is a bull, but Red put a man's ride on top, working the whole time with some great mat returns, tough riding & scrambling. Man's Ride!
  7. deprh is one thing, top dogs is another, the 2003 class had at least 9 ncaa all-Americans from 5 guys, and 3 World Team members . If the group you post meets 1/3 that I will eat my hat 112 Reece Humphrey, Lawrence North USA World Team Member 2x All-American including runner-up 3x national USA freestyle wrestling champion 125 Angel Escobedo, Griffith 10 61-0* NCAA Champ 4-time NCAA All-American USA World Team member made it to 2013 bronze medal match 130 Andrae Hernandez, Griffith 11 61-0* NCAA All-American Win near 100 college matches 135 Alex Tsirtsis, Griffith 4x state champ NCAA All-American Won 96 ncaa matches Alex Dolly 4x ncaa qualifier at Northern Iowa World team member - 9th place for Ireland Jake O'Brien - MMA and 3x state champ Matt Coughlin ncaa all-American
  8. let’s hope so - Air Force is special place looking forward to Brody Baumann at Purdue - he will have good mix to workout with
  9. My bad I missed Zeke Seltzer, but in other thread I said Mizzou and he are going to be a great fit. Smith will maximize his creativity it will be years before you can assess this class/season to compare in the long run. A great season though. There is no denying that 2003 year was impressively & uniquely top heavy across the board in college
  10. Have to agree - what people forget is that Evansville Mater Dei had to deal with unprecedented generational talent that year that were destroying people and went on to college success in; 112 Reece Humphrey, Lawrence North 125 Angel Escobedo, Griffith 10 61-0* 130 Andrae Hernandez, Griffith 11 61-0* 135 Alex Tsirtsis, Griffith Alex Dolly, Mishawaka and 215 Jake O’Brien, Franklin Central were also pretty good. That GRALAN EARLY was tough as well. I don't see that in this class yet, other than Mendez
  11. Seltzer is going to be a great fit at Missouri; he's done great in Indiana but still has a lot of growth left - Smith at Mizzou will get that out of him.
  12. The hands never touched, - the locked hands call was terrible, the arm you could see was JAckson's, not Haines.
  13. Pretty formidable schedule for Purdue out of the box even without Penn State & OSU ( who they will see at Cliff Keen) PURDUE 2016 - 2017 WRESTLING SCHEDULE 11/13/2016 - Purdue Duals - Uindy, Bloomsburg, Northern Illinois - West Lafayette, IN 11/18/2016 -Stanford @ Palo Alto, CA 11/20/2016 - Roadrunner Open @Fresno, CA 11/27/2016 - Iowa - West Lafayette, IN 12/2/2016 Cliff Keen Invite- Las Vegas 12/3/2016 Cliff Keen Invite -Las Vegas 12/19/2016 Southern Illinois Edwardsville @ Edwardsville, IL 12/29/2016 Midlands Championship-Evanston, IL 12/30/2016 Midlands Championship-Evanston, IL 1/8/2017 Northwestern. 14. Great Match. First of all, I called the Red riding on top as being the difference before the match. Lee was getting to his legs so easy, that in that situation, instead of deferring, Lee's team should have chose down the 2nd period, or chose neutral the 3rd, and kept up the pressure on their feet; he had Red on the verge of being hit for a caution or two. The way Red rides with the arm bar, he is a hammer on top and has it down to art where he does not have to expend a terrible amount of energy, and will always look active with that to the ref. Back to your point on the celebration, it's supposed to be about the two fine wrestlers and their effort, and you reward a guy shaking hands and looking him in the eye. For the kids to be excited, OK, their still teens. But after re-watching the video, and your comment regarding Sr., not sure what you are trying to say that can excuse what we all witnessed. Oh my, that was inglorious & silly, especially the chasing of the camera to throw out a parental statue pose with some cryptic hand signals; wtf?
  15. Both great wrestlers. Will be interesting to see which one pushes the pace and which one goes for a knockout opportunity. Neither one has been pushed for 6 minutes in many months, so 3rd period conditioning will be tested. Red is a hammer on top...
  16. Red, you don't tug on Superman's cape!
  17. 5 ways to identify non-region fans http://cimg.tvgcdn.net/i/r/2013/09/18/8e76e903-b1f1-4d1c-ae6f-55810e13a352/resize/350x241/b0ce5613bf7e8a2e5ed6aba7e972c20d/130918queer-eye1.jpg
  18. I'll vote 50 times if you promise to stop wearing the blue speedo shorts around wrestling tournaments! Deal?
  19. I agree and I am torn; the issue is Morgan and Calvin are not doing what it the market takes to make it work. Examples include being the sole B10 program not to offer a multi-year contracts (when they did do this for Volleyball coach). I think Calvin made a complete fool of himself when he got up to speak at the 100 Year Purdue wrestling celebration last year, claiming he was going to 'do what it takes', 'Scott is his guy', blah, blah, blah. What a freaking back stabbing phony. At the same time, if Mr. Erslund is the new guy, he has to know that the issue with the Alum is with the AD and assistant AD, and not the new coach, and try and give him support. It will be interesting to see who he will bring in as his assistant coaches. Purdue is going to make a run at Angel, and they should.
