I’ve been told from a pretty reliable source that the hold up is surrounding qualifying weigh-ins and the weight management protocol as a whole.  It was said that the IHSAA is making sure that student athletes are not dropping below their qualifying weights.

All hearsay at this point.  But thought I’d share.  I guess we’ll know soon enough, if guys are up a weight class from where we may have projected.

So I'm assuming they will hold the boys basketball sectional brackets until the day before games start to ensure teams are only using players with full eligibility.

How would they get them? I'm curious how you know so much about this? The only brackets coaches have are the ones they created at the meeting.

Were coaches asked to not release the brackets of their sectionals to the public?

  3. Haven't followed college wrestling as much this year, but here are potential lineups:

141: Limmex (PU) 13-7 vs. Luigs (IU) 11-10

149: Filius (PU) 8-9 vs. Silva (IU) 2-4

157: Parriott (PU) 6-3 vs. Danishek (IU) 13-9

165: Wysocki (PU) 7-12 vs. Martin (IU) 14-6

Good stuff. Thanks coach. Just goes to show it isn’t about numbers or the size of the school. Every program has its unique obstacles. Keep up the good fight.

My thoughts exactly. Keep up the good fight and stay true to the good!

    Zero

Sectional eligibility is determined by qualified weigh-ins. They must have six qualifying weigh-ins with one being at scratch weight and one being in January.

There is no minimum on number of matches wrestled.

10 matches in order to be seeded?

    One other note:

It is my understanding that Joe Lee will grayshirt at Penn St and be part of next year's class.  He is not on the 2018-2019 roster.  As far as I know he is still in PA training at the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club and will compete in some Open Tournaments.  He has not wrestled yet this year as far as I can find.

    Any particular reason why?

I believe the sports merger happens in the next 2 years and the teams will combine. So if there's 2 people at the same weight a wrestle off is a must.

I'm aware of how a team handles two guys in the same weight class.  What I was asking is how will those scores be counted in qualification process the year prior to the merger.

  8. What year is the merger taking effect?

How will the prior year be handled in terms of state qualification? Will the schools combine points. This year Central was 118 and Memorial was 78. Their total of 196 would've tied for 12th with Carmel and within striking distance of state.  What if two studs are in the same weight class, will both scores be counted?

Top guys from US Open qualify for the World Team Trials event   And in most cases are seeded in that order for the event.

At the Junior and Cadet levels they may still doing it the old way I’m not sure.  But on the Senior level they will have the new Final X series to determine the World Championship spot

In a none World Medalist weight class the winner of the US Open will automatically advanced to the Final X series.  That person will await the winner of the World Team Trials in desperate best of 3 match event to determine the World Team spot.

At a weight class where a returning World Medalist exists that medalist already advanced to the desperate Final X best of 3 series.  In that senecio the winner of the US Open will just advanced to the end of the World Team Trials.   There they will face the WTT challlenge tournament winner for the other Final X spot.

The idea of the Final X was to one give a seperate event that further highlights the final match to make the World Team.  And two to give the finalist a chance to recover and give their best possible match to make the World Team.  In the past the tired and banged up winner of the WTT tournament would have to turn around that same day face a fresh previous World Medalist for the spot. To keep the reward of winning a world medal there rather than them being in the tournament too, Final X was created to help even the playing field for World Team Trials winner.  Although the US Open winner still has that rest advantage over the trials tournament winner.

Any idea on why three different dates/locations for Final X? Would be fun to be able to go to one site and see all of the big dogs at once.
