  1. Not predicting because I have no idea. But Joe Lees TF of Hatch in the semis and almost TF of Warren in the finals was as impressive as I've seen.
  2. Half the champs this year will be back next year plus two who won last year. 9 total guys who have won a state championship Moran Curtis Watts Viduya Garcia Rooks Slivka South Pokorney
  3. Wrote a few down wrong. Apparently my math is okay but put a few schools in the wrong SS
  4. If I did my math correctly: ECC: 25 FW: 22 NC: 32 EV: 33
  5. Don't forget Moran. My final prediction after looking more in-depth 1 - Brownsburg (and I don't think it will be close. Potentially 4 in the finals-Mills, Mulkey, Lee, Walton) 2 - Portage (3 potentially in the finals-Moran, Rumph, McIntosh) 3 - Cathedral 4 - Columbus East 5 - Perry Meridian (3 potentially in the finals-Fair, Warren, Cottey)
  6. What's the capacity of the lower section? Reserve these for wrestlers, coaches, families, etc. So the more you qualify for state, the bigger allotment you get in the lower section. So maybe Cathedral gets 100, Portage gets 90, Brownsburg gets 80, etc. all the way down to the school who qualifies one wrestler still gets five tickets in the bottom section. Not sure how the math would actually work but essentially you have to go through the school's allotment to get into the lower section. The middle and upper sections are open admission for everyone else. I'm sure this is too much work to ever happen.
  7. Chesterton also bringing 6? My Top 5 prediction: 1. Brownsburg 2. Portage 3. Columbus East 4. Cathedral 5. Chesterton
  8. Didn't someone in the "know" say that the IHSAA won't add wrestlebacks because they don't want to add additional rounds/time to the already existing tournament. So it seems silly to keep beating this topic into the ground. Come up with a solution other than "just add wrestlebacks". If the IHSAA ever restructures to allow for wrestlebacks, it might mean less wrestlers advance each round. For example, would people be willing to go to 8-man semi-state brackets in order to get wrestlebacks?
  9. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the future you see a push towards neutral site Semi-State games in football.
  10. I went to the Big 10s at Mackey several years ago (2011?). Good place to watch some wrestling!
  11. Indiana is 17th in population, so that is where you would think we would rank nationally. We shouldn't be compared to California, Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, etc. since they have more people. We should be compared to states our own size (Tennessee, Massachusetts, Missouri, Maryland, Wisconsin, Arizona, etc.). So I would say we are doing really well compared to other states similar in size.
  12. Is it possible that we can grow the sport through the classed team state duals and leave the individual side alone? It seems the classed team state duals has had a positive impact on some of the smaller schools (North Posey, Attica, Central Noble, etc.)
  13. It sounds like they are not in favor of adding additional rounds, so what would we have to give up? Less kids advance but get wrestlebacks? Doesnt sound like they will give something for nothing.
  14. Doubt Lee would have lost without a torn ACL

    126..

Don't sleep on Mejia...that dude will be a tough out.
  16. You're completely correct. I meant McIntosh
  17. Here were my picks before sectionals and my rankings of those picks based on my confidence level. Locks: 1. TIE – Parris (220) & Lee (152) Semi-locks: 3. Davison (195) 4. Moran (106) 5. Walton (182) 6. Curtis (113) The favorites: 7. Rumph (145) 8. Rooks (132) Not quite as confident: 9. Mappes (160) – could be a fun one with Lemley 10. Watts (120) – many great wrestlers with not much separation 11. Pokorney (285) – McWilliams looms large 12. Warren (170) – Warren, Fattore, Brewer (2 of 3 will meet in the semis) 13. Mulkey (138) – another fun weight class Unbelievable depth 14. Rooks (126) – how many guys could realistically win this weight class? 6? More? The quarterfinals on Saturday morning of state will have state finals level matches.
  18. I like the idea of 8 man semi states but you're asking the IHSAA to eliminate half of the people (give or take) who would show up to a semi-state which means less revenue. Maybe it evens out with more wrestlers (and probably more fans) at each regional.
  19. Sectional Champs (hope I wrote them all down correctly) 1. Merrillville 2. Portage 3. Crown Point 4. Chesterton 5. Penn 6. Wawasee 7. Renseelaer Central 8. Harrison WL 9. Northridge 10. Prairie Heights 11. Carroll 12. Homestead (by 1.5 pts over New Haven) 13. Peru 14. Western 15. Jay County 16. Yorktown 17. Zionsville 18. Carmel 19. Pendleton Heights 20. Cathedral 21. Perry Meridian 22. Warren Central 23. Knightstown 24. South Dearborn (by 2 pts over Franklin County) 25. Brownsburg 26. Center Grove 27. Bloomington South 28. Floyd Central 29. Columbus East 30. Jeffersonville 31. Castle 32. Mater Dei
  20. 106-Moran 113-Curtis 120-Watts 126-Rooks 132-Rooks 138-Mulkey 145-McIntosh 152-Lee 160-Mappes 170-Warren 182-Walton 195-Davison 220-Parris 285-Pokorney
  21. Definition of best? Is a sectional that is top heavy better than a sectional with a lot of quality teams but not as many dominant teams?
  22. Guys ranked #15 Welch #6 Micic #8 Lee #13 Red #10 Tsirtsis #10 Lydy #18 Streck So maybe Micic is the only lock to AA right now?
  23. Would love to see a poll on this. My guess is you would see the opinion in the majority.
  24. Man I love these teams seeking out the best competition. It's so good to see big weeknight duals. Best way to grow the sport.
