  1. I wanted to shout out and thank Martin for showing me that in addition to being a great wrestler he is a great young man. After Al Smith day 1 one of my wrestlers left his phone down by the scales on the ground. Martin found it and brought to me to return to my wrestler. As coaches we warn our kids about leaving valuable things unattended at a wrestling meet but if we had more people like this young man we wouldn’t have to worry. Secondly congrats on an Al Smith title really enjoyed watching you in the finals and I am definitely a fan of yours both on and off the mat!

  9. Negative consequences for resting starters who are sick?! Lmao you gotta be joking me! I pray McGinely (sp?) and crew never have to rest a few starters due to illness and lose. God forbid a kids health being more important then some local tournament win. But you wanna say they should drop in the rankings, lmao give cathedral the top spot. Brownsburg at full strength runs through that tourney like a hot knife through butter.

  12. That's funny you say that about the 3 point stance because that's exactly what I thought was his best chance to slow him down. I don't think it's possible to stop him no matter if you are in a 3 point stance or a 300 point stance?. When they are that quick all you can hope to do is slow him down. It reminds me of a funny story of when I wrestled. I wrestled Nick Hull in the Spartan Classic Semis or Finals I believe it was and I remember what i was thinking after the first period was over. I was thinking it was physically not possible that another human could be as quick as he was. After watching the video several times over the years including recently with my dad, we always laugh at me when that third period starts. When it starts we were neutral and as the ref was blowing the whistle to wrestle, Hull just kinda flinched his head the slightest at the same time the ref was blowing the whistle to start and my dad swears till this day that I sprawled before the whistle was blown.??. There is no defense for something that you do not have time to react too. So that is why you have to already be down there as low as possible in the 3 point stance or some guys I've seen do very well slowing quickness down by kinda staying down low on one knee. I was really impressed with Decatur. I don't think we have anyone in Indiana that could beat him untill we get up around 138-145. I only see a few guys IN MY OWN OPINION that could beat him at the 138 pound weight class. I couldn't believe he wasn't on the P4P Rankings. Seems like a nice and humble kid too. The crazy thing is even tho he beat Asa convincingly, I think there was a lot of things that Asa did positive and some things that Asa could learn from this match to make him overall alot better wrestler in the future (ex. Knowing which wrestlers to use a 3 point stance against and which ones to have a squared stance against). Maybe they meet again some day in the NCAA Championships(when it truly matters) and he gets his payback. Good luck the rest of the year and more importantly stay healthy.

  13. Observations/Takeaways from the Al Smith: 106 championship match was awesome. Lots of nice scrambles and back-and-forth through the first two periods. Cruz looked great and imo established himself as a contender. A little biased, but I’d still say the 120 Finals was one of the most exciting matches of the day. Lucas Davison is even better than I thought. Penola looked fantastic in the semis and I expected the match to be moderately close, wouldn’t have ever guessed a 10-0. Columbus East has built a squad the last few years and should have multiple kids competing for Al Smith titles in the coming years. Same for Chesterton and Zionsville. Shout Out to Eli Pokorney. Takes a special talent to win the Afton Quadrangular three times, and with a chance at a fourth.

  14. Good for Martin, did a classy thing with no real obligation to. And congrats to him on his championship. Showed no intimidation against Bailey in the finals, came out and just kept firing away.

  20. Not sure, he obviously made weight. Asa a big 26, just body types I guess . Decatur a explosive wrestler, quick on his feet. Like for Asa to stay in a 3 point stance in the match to counter act his attacks on his feet but like most matches your involved in he decides to wrestle him squared up. Decatur capitalizes on that that type of defense. They’ll tangle more through out the spring/Summer Grind . Might even train together again at Jordan Camps . Just gotta keep closing the gap.

  23. Asa wrestled his butt off and represented Avon/Indiana like a true champion. Very proud of why I saw from him and his team mates. Can't speak for TeamGarcia, but IMO weigh outs on day 1, rather than weigh ins on day 2, gave an advantage to weight cutters. Guys in the semi finals finished up around 7-8pm on day 1, weighed out, then didn't compete again until 1pm on day 2. If I had to guess, I'd say some boys put on 10-15lbs over night!

  30. Very good luck to your boy in the finals. Just tell him to have fun now. No one expects him to win(not literally) so he has nothing to lose and also make sure no matter what happens that after the match he doesn't regret not doing something. I know it's gonna be probably the toughest match(or one of them) of his career so far but I can tell him one thing I know. He has everyone i know from Indiana and from Indianamat behind him and very very proud of him no matter the outcome. To make the finals in that tournament is probably as hard as winning an Indiana State Title.GOOD LUCK ASA!!!! and rest of Indiana boys still wrestling.

I’d recommend some Thermaflu or DayQuil throw in some Chicken Noodle Soup if your vomiting on #TheCountyFlu, might consider some of that new stuff Gatorade is making, what is it called #hateraid to get back your fluids you lost from #TheCountyFlu its going around bad these days around here. Hope you get well soon .

  33. So in your drunk and bored rant you’re saying it’s a bad thing for a coach to hold on kids that are sick and place back ups? #1 or not, a wrestlers health is more important then winning a tourney or being ranked #1. Kudos to Snyder and his crew. They say drunk thoughts speak the sober mind.

  34. Fair enough. But, how boring would this site be if we all just got on here and had to listen to “The County” vomit on us all their accolades, feeder programs, etc. Somebody’s got to keep those boys in check. And if the #1 team in the state losing isn’t newsworthy on this site, I don’t know what is. Likewise, if Chesterton or Columbus East (who both are wrestling splendidly) knock of Cathedral at #2 at the Al Smith this afternoon, there will be plenty of chatter. But, mainly, I was a little drunk and bored.

  36. He's a die-hard Cathedral fan that feels slighted by his defending IHSAA state champ Irish not having a Number 1 next to their name in the duals rankings. Even though it's clear to all that they could be the best duals team, he sadly has taken it on himself to disparage Team State and diminish Brownsburg on multiple threads in hopes of convincing us. Having no connection to any of the top few teams, I personally think Cathedral is a juggernaut this year, but I definitely wish IWG would just let their performances do the talking.

  37. I am a fan of rankings because I believe it can get your community talking about your team and ultimately grow the sport. This being said you will hear no complaint from Brownsburg regarding our ranking or seed at anything. Seeds and rankings generate discussion of our sport which is good for our growth. We care nothing but the end result. Yorktown brought what they could and beat us at Mooresville. They were not at full strength either. Congrats to them on getting the job done. Snyder

  38. We did not purposely keep anyone out of Mooresville. It’s an awesome tournament. I wish all my starters could have wrestled this year and last year, but we have been banged up and sick. I wouldn’t enter our varsity in a great tournament like Mooresville and then send half of them. We have had 1 starter out all year as he got hurt in football. Another starter is 1-0 and we hope to get back soon. We had every intention of wrestling Mills and Walton Day 2, but they both got sick night of Day one. Lee, Krietzer, and Mulkey are sick. Peterson and Campbell banged up. We got a few back today and more tomorrow and hopefully even more next week. Yes, they would have all wrestled if it was Team State or Sectional time. However, we are not intentionally sitting them at Mooresville. Trust me that they, my coaching staff, and I are very frustrated. I wish we were 100% healthy, but I’ve never had that miracle in my coaching career. Congrats to Yorktown on their well deserved win. They have some studs and it was fun watching them do their thing.
